SUSTAINABILITY

Tidesavers

Initiative created to promote the conservation of marine species and ecosystems.

HAYDUK HAYDUK

A reality that we are living as a generation, is that we are suffering the consequences of global warming and vicissitudes of our predation to different species. Therefore, in recent years, both in Peru and in other countries, initiatives have been created to promote the conservation of species and our ecosystem.

This is how Salvamares was born, an initiative of the National Fisheries Society (SNP) and its associated companies, which in the framework of the Sustainable Peru Forum was awarded with the highest Peru for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) recognition for being a program designed to save many species of our Peruvian coast, generating climate change alerts in a timely manner thanks to its technology and scientific information in real time. This is considered a great contribution to the conservation of the planet and its species.

This program, created in 2017, has already managed to rescue more than 5 thousand species and seeks to collect information on top predators that interact with anchovy during the fishing season. It also trains fishing boat crews in the identification and correct release of species that fall into the nets, such as birds, mammals, and sea turtles. Its technology provides information system that collects data during fishing and prospecting activities, which includes the following:

– Acoustic information: This provides acoustic fish and zooplankton density per nautical mile.

– Biological data on catches and composition by fishing cast, such as anchovy, horse mackerel and mackerel biometry.

– Satellite data on the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) in order to know its behavior.

In Hayduk Corporación we are motivated to meet the objective of this program, in which 14 of our vessels are participating. Our aspiration is that this type of project is implemented not only for Peruvian fishing vessels, but also in the world, to generate awareness of the care of the marine ecosystem and to take advantage of its resources in a sustainable manner.
