SUSTAINABILITY

Together with the National Fisheries Society, EsSalud and other companies, we started this campaign against childhood anemia.

HAYDUK HAYDUK

The National Fisheries Society (SNP), together with EsSalud, Hayduk Corporación and other companies associated to the union started the “Armada de Hierro” campaign, an initiative that focuses on the fight against childhood anemia in children between 0 and 3 years of age.

First stop: Coishco

The SNP and EsSalud signed an agreement to carry out coordinated actions to prevent and reduce this disease in different fishing areas of our Peruvian coast, such as the departments of Piura, La Libertad, Ancash, Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna. This first stage of “Armada de Hierro” focused mainly on the children of the employees of the fishing companies.

On September 24, the campaign was held in Coishco, where in addition to anemia screening, there were other activities such as cooking demonstrations, tasting of iron-rich dishes and talks on preventive management of anemia and nutrition. At the same time, pediatric care, vaccinations, and diabetes screening were provided. We highlight the support of the EsSalud Network in Ancash to carry out the campaign successfully, since the level of anemia in children under three years of age is alarming: in the area it reaches 47.5%, and in the region 42.8%.

The campaign continues: Puerto Malabrigo

The next stop was in La Libertad on September 26. “Armada de Hierro” arrived in Puerto Malabrigo, to continue with the plan to combat childhood anemia using the same procedure used in Coishco. This is the fourth city reached by the campaign, which reaffirms the commitment of the parties involved to eradicate the disease. Likewise, the role of the EsSalud Chocope de La Libertad Network was fundamental, due to the high level of anemia in children under three years of age in the area, which reaches 34.8%, while in the region it is 50.4%.
