PESQUERA HAYDUK S.A. since January 2018, requires on board its tuna vessels the use of only non- entangling FADs and does not allow on board the practice of setting FADs that have the highest risk of entanglement, as defined in the ISSF Guide for non-entangli rig FADs, first published in 2012 and last updated in 2015.
As of July 1, 2021, PESQUERA HAYDU K S.A, updates the policy of non-entangling and biodegradahle FADs for its tuna vessels, whose implementation has allowed the correct execution of the six actions identified in the ISSF Technical Report 2019-11, ISSF Guide for non-entangling FADs, additionally the technical cooperation with various management and science organizations is a deci.sion to continue working on practical solutions to reduce F••s ihle impacts on the tuna fishery on drifting FADs which are detailed below:
In January 2023, PESQU ERA HAY DU K S.A., on its vessels (Annex 1), updates its non-entangling FAD policy, according to the latest updates to the ISSF 3.5 conservation measure.
In this regard, the FADs used on board follow the following requirements:
For the FAD raft, we commit to cover using a small mesh net (< 2.5 inches / 7 cm stretched mesh) for the upper parts such as the submerged, which wraps it tightly with no lnose net hanging front the raft.
For the tail structure (i.e. subway suspension structure), we commit to use net of any mesh six.e as submerged tail, tying it tightly in sausage-like bundles, or if open panel net is used, use a small mesh size (< 2.5 inches / 7 cm stretched mesh) and extremely heavy.
